VGM gastro center is a decade old 120 bedded tertiary care referral center of excellence in medical and surgical gastroenterology. It is one of the finest healthcare institutes in the world providing medical care using state of the art technology on par with many corporate multispecialty hospitals both within and outside India.

Our chairman Dr. V.G. Mohan Prasad is a world famous gastroenterologist with over 33 years of expertise. He is well known for his pioneering works like introduction of collagen spray for GI bleed, capsule endoscopy, heliprobe test, spirous enteroscopy, spyglass ERCP for the first time in south India. These many firsts have given us distinctive mark in the world map. Our center caters to both domestic and international patients from over 13 countries.

The department of surgical gastroenterology is actively functioning for the past 11 years since the inception of the hospital.  The department is led by Dr. Gokul Kruba Shanker from day one. He is immensely trained in surgical gastroenterology under the mentorship of stalwarts namely Dr. Palanivelu and Dr.K.S.Shanmugasundaram. Dr.Gokul is an excellent surgeon who performs complex GI & Hepatobiliary surgeries with an excellent track record. He is an outstanding academician and has foresight of training surgeons in the field of laparoscopic surgery. Being the lead member, he always prefers to advance along with the team. At present his team comprises of two surgeons and nine staff members who show utmost dedication towards their work.

Every year both the heads of medical and surgical gastro departments attend various national and international conferences and update their knowledge continuously to bring the latest innovative technologies to our hospital. We are the only hospital to perform surgeries on chronic liver disease, HBsAg, HIV, HCV positive patients We are extremely proud of being on of the first and only centres to have brought the following investigations / Treatments for gastro-indestinal disorders.

The availability of full time anesthetists and intensivists, well equipped 12 bedded ICU with 5 ventilators, 3 dialysis units and two isolation rooms has guaranteed successful outcome for patients with complex GI problems. Pain management, prompt recognition and optimization of post-operative problems, early mobilization, strict respiratory care have been our mantras for successful outcomes. Since last 3 years, the availability of adjunct specialists like cardiologist, diabetologist, orthopedician, oncologist, pulmonologist, nephrologist and neurologist has ensured holistic care for patients.
