This specialty mainly focusses on surgical problems of liver, pancreas and bile duct, mainly chronic pancreatitis, acute necrotizing pancreatitis,pseudocyst of pancreas, hepatic cysts,choledochal cyst, bile duct strictures, periampullary malignancy, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic tumors, gall bladder cancer, bile duct cancer.

Usually patients present to HBP surgeon for the evaluation of progressive jaundice which is the yellowish discoloration of eyes, nailbeds; and solid tumors in the liver, pancreas,gall bladder; and for evaluation of abdominal pain due to chronic pancreatitis, acute severe necrotizing pancreatitis.
